Good service, some billing confusion

I signed up for an Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance about a month ago. The setup was pretty straightforward, and the performance for my small application has been very stable. I also tried out the Object Storage Service (OSS) for backups and it integrated smoothly. My main gripe was with the billing interface; it wasn't immediately clear how my free credits were being applied, and I had to dig a bit to confirm everything was right. The documentation helped, but a more intuitive dashboard would be great. Technical support responded within a day when I had a question about network configuration, which was decent. Overall, a solid platform for my needs, but the billing could be more transparent.

Decent value for new user

I just got started with Alibaba Cloud and used their new user credit for an ApsaraDB RDS instance. The $300 credit really helped offset the initial costs, making it a very affordable way to try out their services. The setup was quick, and I got my database running without much fuss. I'm always looking for ways to save, so the credit was a big draw. It felt like a good deal for the features I received, definitely worth the purchase for my project.

ECS worked well

I deployed an ECS instance for a test project. It provisioned fast and ran without issues. The dashboard was easy to navigate. Good experience overall.

Hey, I'm new to cloud services. Is there like a free trial or something to test things out before I commit?

K Kevin A. 3 weeks ago
Totally, they usually have new user credits. I think I got like $300 or $400 when I first signed up. Enough to play around with ECS for a bit.

Yep, they've got a free trial and also those $300 free credits. Just look for the sign-up offers, they're usually pretty prominent.

Thinking of moving my stuff to Alibaba Cloud. Is it reliable for a US-based company, like, legally and security-wise?

M Matt Rodriguez 1 month ago
Yeah, I had similar concerns. From what I've seen, they're pretty legit, especially with their US data centers and all. Haven't had any issues with compliance.

They list HIPAA compliance on their site, which is a good sign for data privacy. Pretty sure they wouldn't risk it if they weren't solid in the US.

I'm looking to get a VPN Gateway for my setup. Are there any current promotions or trials specifically for networking services?

K Kevin Garcia 2 weeks ago
Sometimes they roll out specific promos for networking stuff like CDN trials. Keep an eye on their promotions page, especially around sales events.

I don't recall seeing a specific VPN Gateway trial, but they do rotate deals. It's worth checking their 'deals' section or looking during their seasonal sales like Double 11 or Black Friday.

Can I stack a new user credit with a marketplace coupon, or is it one deal per customer?

A Ashley Lee 5 days ago
AFAIK, usually you can't stack multiple vouchers or credits. Most new user deals are exclusive. You'll probably have to pick the best one for what you're trying to do.

I tried that once and it didn't work. The system usually only applies one coupon or credit at a time, especially for new accounts. It's in their coupon policy somewhere.

How do their prices stack up against AWS? Is it a lot cheaper to run stuff on Alibaba Cloud?

B Brittany Torres 2 weeks ago
It really depends on the service. For some things, like certain storage options, I found them pretty competitive. But for others, AWS might be on par.

D Donna M. 1 week ago
I'd say for certain regions and particular services, Alibaba Cloud can be significantly cheaper, especially with their long-term subscription discounts. Pay-as-you-go can be close though. Definitely worth doing a direct comparison for your specific needs.
